Local development framework

The portfolio of development documents within the Local Development Framework (LDF) enables the input of cultural and sporting provision in decision-making regarding planning and development.

There is scope for specific policies on culture and sport within the core strategy under community infrastructure. There can also be specific policies and actions for designated cultural areas. A financial contribution to increasing cultural infrastructure could be required as part of new developments.

Policy needs to be backed up by a strong evidence base which provides up-to-date information on key aspects of the social, economic, cultural and environmental characteristics of the area. Policy should be founded on a thorough understanding of the needs of the area and its opportunities and constraints.

Planning Portal is the gateway to planning information, and its visual guide introduces the LDF and explains the importance and role of each development plan document.
