Sport England

Sport England allocates funding to a wide-range of organisations and projects that will grow and sustain participation in grassroots sport and create opportunities for people to excel at their chosen sport. The sources of funding come from the Exchequer and the Lottery.

Purpose

Funding opportunities are available and specially designed to promote Sport England’s three outcomes set out in Sport England Strategy 2008-2011 – excel, sustain and grow. Investment can have an immediate impact as well as providing medium and long term support for people, organisations and network that grow and sustain participation in sport and lead on to sporting excellence.

Applications

Some of the funding programmes include:

  • Small Grants: Grants of between £300 and £10,000 will be provided to support sport in communities. The application and award processes will be as streamlined as possible
  • Rural Communities Themed Round: Projects which meet the criteria within a given themed round will receive grants of over £10,000 to grow and sustain participation in community sport. The Rural Communities Themed Round aims both to address barriers and create new opportunities for participation in sport in rural communities
  • Sustainable Facilities Fund: Funding will be provided to support sustainable investment in major sports facilities. This programme is additional to the facilities funding that we are investing through national governing bodies of sport

All potential applicants should check whether their projects fits in with the Sport England strategy and will help to deliver Sport England’s three outcomes of excel, sustain and grow. All applications will be assessed, firstly, to determine whether they are eligible for funding, and secondly to assess the extent to which they will achieve the outcomes Sport England is seeking.
