Purpose

Arts Council England is the national development agency and a major funding source for the arts. We work to get great art to everyone by championing, developing and investing in artistic experiences that enrich people’s lives

Applications

The Arts Council currently has a number of different grant programmes available to the cultural sector individuals and organisations depending on the type of project and purpose. Relevant grants for the development and regeneration of buildings and places through the arts include:

  • Grants for the arts: Through the National Lottery, Arts Council funds arts activities that benefit people in England, or that help artists and arts organisations.
  • Art in Empty Spaces: £500,000 initiative to help artists turn vacant high street shops into artistic and vibrant places

The How to apply guidance for the respective grant programmes explain what applicants need to do to make an eligible application. For the Art in Empty Spaces, Arts Council England will accept Grants for applications from artists in any location in England but priority will be given to those who have received partnership funding from one the 57 DCLG selected local authority areas.
